Obubu Maxwell Is UNIZIK Best Graduating Student

Mr. Obubu Maxwell of the Department of Statistics, Faculty of Physical Sciences, has emerged overall best graduating students in five academic sessions. He was also given an immediate employment in the University by the Vice-Chancellor.  This award was given at the occasion marking the 10th Combined Convocation Ceremonies of Nnamdi Azikiwe University for the award of first degrees and conferment of higher degrees by the Chancellor, the Gbong Gwom Jos and Chairman Plateau State Council of Chiefs, His Majesty Dr. Da Jacob Gyang Buba, CON.

In his opening remark, the Chancellor congratulated the graduating students and the best graduating student for the well deserved appointment and for his academic excellence.

He also commended the progress made by the University through successive administrations of the University and the efforts of the present administration in making every effort to sustain the progress, and to advance the University to new heights.  His Majesty congratulated the Vice-Chancellor and Management for the completed projects that were commissioned as part of the Convocation Ceremony.  He expressed gratitude to the Federal Government and its relevant agencies for the financial and other support that have made these achievements possible, as well as benefactors of the University who have played very significant roles in admirably complementing the efforts of the University and government. He urged them not to relent in their noble ventures.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Ahaneku, FAS in his congratulatory message to the graduating students outlined the road map of his administration which is geared towards giving the University institutional character, research focus and academic culture, through a new matrix to University education and governance, aimed at boosting the quality of graduates and post-graduate students’ output. Also, the focus will be on enhancing research and development, and uplifting the national and international profile of the University.

Prof. Ahaneku expressed appreciation to the Executive Governor of Anambra State, whose administration has provided peace and security in the state, and within the campus. His donation of a 33-seater bus to the University during his recent visit to the University and donations by other benefactors show their care and love for the University.

The Convocation Ceremony featured top Government Functionaries, members of the University stakeholders, community, parents and sponsors, and other dignitaries from all walks of life.

About twenty-seven thousand, five hundred and eighty-one (27,581.00) graduands received first degree awards.
