The Senate of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (UNIZIK) has elected the first female Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Administrations during its 179th meeting held on Wednesday June 29, 2016. The newly elected DVC is Dame Prof. Carol Arinze-Umobi.
Mrs. Arinze-Umobi, a professor of Family Laws in the Faculty of Law of the University was born on 7th July, 1957. Prof. Arinze-Umobi has held many positions in the University including
- Director, Centre for Early Warning, Early Response System (Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution), the Presidency.
- Director, Confucius Institute, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka
- Chairman, Tertiary Education Trust Fund, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka
- Member, University Governing Council, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka and many other committees.
A consummate scholar noted for many firsts, Prof Carol Arinze-Umobi was the best graduating student in Law in 1994 where she won the Departmental, Faculty and University Awards. She had earlier emerged as the best graduating student in her Department at the University of Benin where she obtained her first degree in Theater Arts. In 1982, she was the best Youth Corp Member in Anambra State with a merit certificate.
Prof. Arinze Umobi is the President, Federation of University Women of Africa, President, Consortium of Female Lawyers in Academia (COFLA) and member Governing Council of Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe, Anambra State.
Dame Prof. Carol Arinze-Umobi is one of the two Deputy Vice-Chancellors in the University who, on daily basis, assist the University Vice-Chancellor in administering the University.
