Medical Students of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University returned from the first concluded 2016 NiMSA Games held in UNIBEN with lots of trophies. The 2016 NiMSA Games which saw twenty universities competing took a more renewed form close to what is witnessed during NUGA Games. This is because the host school, the University of Benin, improved on the accreditation processes, the officiating officials and most importantly providing accommodation for all athletes in a more formal pattern than was previously done.
According to UNIZIK Sports Director, Mr. Makassi, the university attended with 55 athletes, three officials and two drivers. UNIZIK participated in almost all the events and came out overall 4th out of 20 contesting universities.
In the usually keenly contested singular event – football, UNIZIK lost the 3rd place match against UNIJOS which placed UNIZIK overall 4th in football that was contested for by all participating universities (20).
In all, UNIZIK collected a total of 24 medals listed as follows;
- 5 Gold
- 13 Silver
- 6 Bronze medals.
