The Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) Cricket team took second position in the 6th South-East Cricket Competition hosted by UNN for Chuma Anosike Cup.
In its first ever outing for the competition, UNIZIK participated in the championship which was open to Secondary Schools, Colleges of Education, Polytechnics, Universities and even Club sides. The competition sponsored by Barr. Chuma Anosike is an annual event aimed at encouraging and motivating the younger ones to play the game of cricket in the South East. The sponsor himself was also a player during his university days and also an African Cricket Vice-President.
At the end of the championship, the results stood as follows:-
- Gold Medal: (Overall 1st) – UNN Nsukka
- Silver Medal: (Overall 2nd) – UNIZIK Awka
- Bronze Medal: (Overall 3rd) – Bishop Crowder Sec. Sch. Awka
The Vice Chancellor, Prof Ahaneku’s support played an immense role in the success of the UNIZIK Team even with her first attempt. The Team will surely go places with the current trend of support by the Vice-Chancellor.
